Air fryer pizza: choose the base before the toppings

Plan a pizza that fits your basket, supports its toppings and has a practical removal route, without assuming every base cooks alike.

Identify the base you actually have

A raw dough ball, a ready-made crust and a chilled topped pizza are three different starting points. Write down which one you have before looking for a cooking method. A recipe for a prepared crust cannot tell you whether a thick raw centre is baked. Likewise, cutting a supermarket pizza into pieces changes its arrangement without creating manufacturer-approved air-fryer instructions. Keep its packaging available while deciding how to proceed.

COSORI's classic Margherita recipe uses a small dough circle and a separate base stage before topping. That example supports checking the base method, rather than copying its settings to every machine. Use a matching recipe as a complete starting point. If the recipe assumes dough preparation you have skipped, find one suited to your actual crust instead of filling the gap with extra heat.

Map the usable floor

With the appliance cold, compare the intended pizza shape with the usable cooking surface. Look at corners, the crisper plate and any approved pan. The basket's outside width is not a pizza diameter. A crust pressed up the side can form a folded edge, while a pan that technically enters the drawer may leave no comfortable place for your removal tool. Include that handling space in your decision.

Imagine making lunch from one dough portion in a narrow basket. Two smaller bases may be easier to position than one stretched oval with a thick middle. Decide whether each smaller base will follow the same supported method, and keep their thickness comparable. If the full pizza is essential, an oven or a suitable wider appliance may be the more straightforward choice.

Keep topping decisions visible

Make a simple topping list: sauce, cheese, vegetables and any meat. Check whether each ingredient is already cooked and whether its instructions fit the recipe. Do not rely on melted cheese to verify a raw ingredient underneath. A recipe using cooked chicken does not justify placing raw chicken pieces on the same base. Prepare ingredients as the selected recipe specifies and retain the necessary food-safety checks.

Consider the practical weight of the toppings as well. If your pizza needs two hands to support it while raw, plan the transfer before assembly. A supported pan may be easier than moving loose dough, but that pan needs its own compatibility check. Avoid building a tall pile simply because extra ingredients fit within the basket walls. A modest first attempt gives you a clearer view of what needs adjustment.

Check the centre and record the arrangement

Use the chosen recipe's endpoint and inspect the actual base, including its centre and underside where accessible with suitable tools. Surface colour alone cannot explain a wet dough layer. If the result is uneven, record the shape, thickness and pan before changing the setting. Those details help distinguish a placement problem from an unsuitable recipe. They also prevent the next attempt from becoming a collection of unrelated changes.

Serve and remove the pizza using the handling route planned while everything was cold. For a repeatable note, describe the base product or dough recipe, the approximate shape, the topping state and the accessory used. Keep cooking settings attached to that combination and appliance. The useful result is a method for your pizza, not a universal promise that any round of dough will finish in the same number of minutes.
